Sane Together
How we unlock futures worth living in
A two-minute film, and our entry in the Existential Hope meme prize.
The problem
Humanity's biggest challenges — war, AI, tyranny, climate, hunger — need billions of us to think and work together. Governments, corporations, bots and geniuses can't do it for us, and our tools weren't built for this job. Social media feeds on outrage. Chatbots talk to each of us alone. Collaboration platforms rush us to a forced consensus. We struggle to understand each other — or join in others' work. We don't see problems together — we see each other as the problem.
The turn
Instead, let's create a vast playground of the mind. Every idea pinned to who, when and why. Saying "I see it differently, because…" doesn't erase other views; they coexist. I think in pictures, you in words, they in numbers — but we all think together.
Perspectives
Reorder evidence, voices or values — then watch the outcome shift. Learn or change your mind and the trail stays. Replay how you or others got here. Explore other paths.
Metacognition
This is thinking — and improving how we think — together. If we invite AIs, they join as participants, not oracles. Every voice gets the same scrutiny.
The payoff
Disagreements stop being failures; they show us what to work on. Ideas get tested in the open — we gather where the evidence leads. Human values and needs drive the loop. Together we pursue the true and the good — with algorithms we write.
The hope
Humans are the creatures who think together with tools we've made ourselves: speech, writing, print, the web — AI. This next tool we're creating on purpose — a shared mental space where we work directly with ideas.
Humans growing sane together is how we unlock futures worth living in.
